Wiggins leads Cardinal past WSU

Senior Candice Wiggins has nearly done it all during her four years at Stanford.

Now she can add Pac-10 career scoring leader to her ever growing list of accomplishments.

Wiggins scored 24 points to pass Lisa Leslie and move into the top spot on the conference scoring list and No. 7 Stanford beat Washington State 74-52 on Sunday in Pullman. The victory gave the Cardinal the Pac-10 regular-season championship.

“I’m really happy for lots of reasons,” said Wiggins, who passed Leslie’s mark of 2,414 points late in the first half. “The regular season’s done and just seeing how far we’ve come is very exciting.”

The Cardinal (27-3, 26-2 Pac-10) finished the season on a 15-game winning streak and will be the No. 1 seed in the Pac-10 Tournament. Ninth-ranked California had a chance to be co-champions, but lost to Washington 74-66 later Sunday.

Katie Appleton led the Cougars with 17 points.

Washington 74, (9) California 66: Sami Whitcomb scored 24 points, and hit four 3-pointers during a decisive 18-7 second-half run as the Huskies 13-17, 8-10 Pac-10) stunned the Golden Bears (24-5, 15-3) in Seattle, ruining Cal’s chance at their first Pac-10 title.

(2) North Carolina 82, (12) Duke 51: Cetera DeGraffenreid scored 14 points to help the Tar Heels (27-2, 14-0 ACC) beat the Blue Devils (21-8, 10-4) at Chapel Hill, N.C., securing North Carolina’s first unbeaten regular season in the ACC.

(3) Tennessee 72, (22) Georgia 63: Candace Parker scored 30 points in her final regular-season game and the Lady Vols (27-2, 13-1 SEC) beat the Bulldogs (21-8, 8-6) at Athens, Ga.

(5) Maryland 76, N.C. State 64: Laura Harper scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Crystal Langhorne had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lift Maryland (29-2, 13-1 ACC) past N.C. State (18-11, 6-8) at Raleigh, N.C.

(6) LSU 64, Mississippi State 49: Sylvia Fowles had 20 points and 12 rebounds to help the Lady Tigers (25-4, 14-0) clinch the SEC regular season title with a win over Mississippi State (16-13, 4-10) at Starkville, Miss.

Texas 65, (10) Oklahoma 49: Brittainey Raven scored 16 points and the Longhorns (18-11, 6-9 Big 12) prevented Oklahoma from tying for first place in the Big 12 standings by upsetting the Sooners (21-6, 11-4) at Norman, Okla.
