Redmon leaves Huskies program

Katelan Redmon, the Lewis and Clark graduate, who led the University of Washington in scoring as a freshman this past season, is leaving the program and plans to transfer, UW officials announced.

The 6-foot-1 Redmon averaged 11.8 points, was second on the team in rebounding, started all 31 games, and was chosen to the Pacific-10 Conference all-freshman team.

Redmon had signed with the Huskies when June Daugherty was the Washington coach. When Daugherty was fired, and then subsequently hired to lead the Washington State program, Redmon sought to be released from her letter of intent. UW denied the request.

A UW press release said the school had not been informed of Redmon’s future plans.

“I never thought in a million years I would be revealing what I am today,” said UW head coach Tia Jackson Wednesday in the press release, who recently concluded her first year in charge of the Husky program. “However, Katelan Redmon has opted to forgo her time here at Washington. There are several reasons for her decision, and, as you can imagine this program is incredibly disappointed that she has elected to leave.

“Katelan has been an integral part of the success of our program this past season and an absolute gem to coach. We wish her all the best as we continue onward to prepare for what still is a very bright future for Husky women’s basketball.”
