Man arrested after morning pursuit

The Spokesman-Review

Officers arrested a 36-year-old Deer Park man about noon Monday after a short pursuit that ended with his stolen car being pinned against a parked vehicle near North Pines Middle School.

Officer Chan Erdman attempted to stop Mark R. Yeager, 4871 Williams Valley Road, at Mission Avenue and Pines Road about 11:34 a.m., said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

The suspect fled from the officer, apparently because he had an outstanding Department of Corrections escape warrant.

Erdman also learned that the 1985 Chevrolet Cavalier Yeager was driving had been reported stolen from a Spokane Valley address on March 2. Erdman initiated a pursuit which ended when officers used a Pursuit Immobilization Technique near the school.

Yeager ran from his pinned car, but was chased down. Officers used a Taser to control the suspect for arrest at the end of the chase. Yeager was arrested on the felony escape warrant and on a felony count of attempting to elude a police vehicle.

Yeager was not charged in connection with the stolen car after officers learned its taking might have been a civil, rather than criminal, matter.
