Red Wings win, tie points mark
Pavel Datsyuk had two goals and an assist and the Detroit Red Wings rallied for a 5-3 over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night at Detroit.
It was the fifth straight win for NHL-leading Detroit, which reached 100 points for a league-record tying eighth straight season. Montreal had 100-point seasons from 1975-82.
Johan Franzen had a goal and an assist each for the Red Wings and Mikael Samuelsson and Valtteri Filppula also scored. Nicklas Lidstrom had two assists and Chris Osgood made 16 saves.
Trevor Daley, Jere Lehtinen and Brenden Morrow scored Dallas’ goals and Joel Lundqvist had two assists. Marty Turco stopped 26 shots.
Lightning 3, Bruins 1: At Boston, Mike Smith stopped 35 shots, and last-place Tampa Bay got goals from Jeff Halpern and Andreas Karlsson in a victory over the slumping Bruins.
Thrashers 6, Flames 4: At Atlanta, Bobby Holik scored on a pass from Ilya Kovalchuk – who scored a hat trick with a late empty-net goal – in the closing minutes and the Thrashers overcame a three-goal deficit to beat Calgary for only their second win in 12 games.
Senators 3, Canadiens 0: At Montreal, Jason Spezza scored two goals and Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots for his second shutout, leading Ottawa to a win over the Canadiens.
Devils 4, Wild 3 (SO): At St. Paul, Minn., Jamie Langenbrunner scored the winner for New Jersey to seal a shootout victory over Minnesota. Langenbrunner was the only successful shooter. He faked to his left and went right to deke goalie Niklas Backstrom, who lost his third shootout in as many games.
Kings 4, Predators 1: At Nashville, Tenn., Alexander Frolov scored two goals and Los Angeles beat the Predators. Kevin Dallman and Matt Ellis also scored for the Kings, and J.P. Dumont had the lone goal for the Predators.
Avalanche 5, Oilers 1: At Denver, Jaroslav Hlinka and Tyler Arnason each had a goal and an assist, helping Colorado move into sole possession of first place in the Northwest Division with a win over Edmonton.
Coyotes 2, Canucks 0: At Glendale, Ariz., Ilya Bryzgalov had 24 saves for his fifth career shutout and Phoenix defeated Vancouver.
•Canucks defenseman Mattias Ohlund will miss the rest of the regular season after having surgery to remove bone chips from his left knee.
Buffalo’s Paetsch out
Nathan Paetsch is out indefinitely with a concussion, leaving the Buffalo Sabres’ depleted defense down a third player in the midst of their final playoff push. Paetsch was leveled by a vicious elbow to the head from Pittsburgh forward Georges Laraque during Buffalo’s 7-3 loss Wednesday night. The NHL suspended Laraque for three games.
