Baseball

Tim Stewart hit a first-pitch home run for East Valley, but after that University pitcher Billy Moon was in control in leading the Titans to an 11-1, five-inning victory over the visiting Knights on Monday in a rain-delayed Greater Spokane League opener.

Moon struck out eight in pitching a three-hitter – EV never got anyone past second after Stewart’s homer – and Brandon Shryock and Craig Keeton led a nine-hit U-Hi attack with two hits each. Keeton drove in two runs and scored two and Shryock drove in one and scored two.

Softball

Ashley Kellogg pitched a five-hitter, striking out five, and had a double in Gonzaga Prep’s three-run second inning en route to the Bullpups’ 9-1 Greater Spokane League win over Lewis and Clark (0-3) at Hart Field. Molly Anderson had a solo home run in the fourth inning for G-Prep (2-1).

In another GSL makeup game, Lauren Mandler limited East Valley (0-2) to one hit and had 10 strike outs in pitching Central Valley to an 11-0, five-inning win. Alexa Morales’ two-run double highlighted a six-run first inning for CV (2-1) in which the Bears managed but two hits.

Golf

Coeur d’Alene, led by Taylor Porter and Tyler Johnson, who shot par 72s, won the boys division of the Lewiston Invitational at Lewiston Country Club. The Vikings had a 299 team total to 309 for Lewiston and 329 for East Valley. The Knights’ Ben Johnson had a top-six finish with a 78.

Lewiston, led by medalist Alyssa Nilsson’s 9-over 81 at Bryden Canyon, won the girls division, 389-390 over Coeur d’Alene. The Vikings were led by Sarah Johnson’s 92.
