TV’s best bets: ‘The Riches’ in chaos in opener

Tonight’s must-see

“The Riches” season-opener, 10 p.m., FX.

During most of the first season, Wayne and Dahlia Malloy (superbly played by Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver) pulled it off. They secretly took over the lives of the late Riches. Now things are crumbling. Several people know their secret; the Malloys want to grab the kids and run.

Things get messier, with Wayne and Dahlia working separately. Busy and chaotic, this hour leaves things hanging.

Tonight’s must-see II

“American Idol,” 8-10 p.m., Fox.

For the second straight week, the contestants tackle Lennon-McCartney songs. That’s fine for viewers, but not for some of the singers. Last week, the oft-infallible David Archuleta stumbled on a Lennon-McCartney tune. And David Hernandez – who took a college class in the Beatles – was voted out.

Other choices include

“The Biggest Loser,” 8-10 p.m., NBC. Now that the contestants are slimmer, it’s time for a fashion makeover. Tim Gunn of “Project Runway” shows up.

“Dancing With the Stars,” 9 p.m., ABC. We meet the six women, athletes (Monica Seles, Kristi Yamaguchi) and actresses (Marlee Matlin, Shannon Elizabeth, Priscilla Presley and Marissa Winokur). They face hurdles, including deafness (Matlin), age (Presley, 62) and weight (Winokur).

“In Treatment,” 9:30 p.m., HBO. Here is a stunning performance by Glyn Turman, who was Mayor Royce on “The Wire.” He plays Alex’s father; his crackling confrontation with Paul ranges from rage to tears.

“Jericho,” 10 p.m., CBS. Jake and the Rangers have taken action into their own hands. Now Major Beck tries to establish that he’s in control.

“Miss Guided” debut, 10:32 p.m., ABC. A once-geeky woman (Judy Greer) returns to her high school as guidance counselor. Her beautiful nemesis (Brooke Burns) is still there.
