UW draws Valparaiso in CBI

The Washington Huskies will play Valparaiso in the first round of the inaugural College Basketball Invitational, it was announced late Sunday night.

The Huskies (16-16) and Crusaders (21-13) will play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Bank of America Arena on the UW campus. Washington is seeded No. 1 in the West Region and Valpo is No. 4 in the men’s tournament.

It will be the first meeting between the two.

Toledo fires coach

Stan Joplin was fired as University of Toledo men’s basketball after 12 years.

Athletic director Mike O’Brien said the program needs new direction and energy after an 11-19 finish and a disappointing recruiting class.

Joplin had a 203-155 record.
