Boyes helps Blues top Canadiens in SO

Brad Boyes scored his 38th goal in the game and was the only player to score in the shootout and the St. Louis Blues ended a 10-game road losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.

Manny Legace stopped Saku Koivu, Andrei Kostitsyn and Alex Kovalev in the shootout as St. Louis got its first road win in more than a month.

Boyes, who scored his team-high 38th goal in the second period, put a backhand past Jaroslav Halak on St. Louis’ second attempt.

Rangers 5, Penguins 2: At New York, Sean Avery posted his third two-goal effort in a month and Henrik Lundqvist made 22 saves for the Rangers, who got back to their winning ways with a victory over Pittsburgh.

New York kept Evgeni Malkin, the league’s second-leading scorer, without a point and recorded 30 shots on Ty Conklin.

Flyers 3, Thrashers 2: At Philadelphia, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Vaclav Prospal scored goals and the Flyers kept their hold on the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a win over Atlanta.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 50th goal of the season for the Thrashers in the final minute. Kovalchuk just missed tying the game in the final seconds on a shot from point-blank range, but Antero Niittymaki made the save.

Blue Jackets 3, Flames 0: At Columbus, Ohio, backup goalie Fredrik Norrena made 18 saves for his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career and the Blue Jackets beat Calgary.

Manny Malhotra scored two goals for the second straight game and Rick Nash had a goal and two assists for Columbus.

Maple Leafs 3, Islanders 1: At Uniondale, N.Y., Pavel Kubina’s third-period power-play goal helped Toronto beat New York.

Kubina’s screened slap shot from the right point got through cleanly and beat Islanders goalie Wade Dubielewicz for the Maple Leafs’ third win in their past four games.

Capitals 4, Predators 2: At Nashville, Tenn., Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and two assists to lead Washington over Nashville.

Ovechkin’s 58th goal was an empty-netter and Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom and Matt Bradley added first-period goals for the Capitals.

Oilers 8, Coyotes 4: At Edmonton, Alberta, Curtis Glencross scored two third-period goals and the Oilers defeated Phoenix.

Tom Gilbert, Sam Gagner, Robert Nilsson, Kyle Brodziak, Jarret Stoll and Dustin Penner also scored for Edmonton.

Sharks 2, Kings 1: At Los Angeles, Brian Boucher stopped 29 shots for his second victory in two starts with San Jose, which got goals from Joe Thornton and Patrick Rismiller in a victory over the Kings. It was San Jose’s ninth straight win on the road.
