In brief: Highlander bricks available

The Spokesman-Review

The deadline to purchase a brick for the Highlander Pride Alumni Courtyard at the renovated Shadle Park High School has been extended.

Tamie Spitzer, one of two committee leaders for the project, said that the installation of the bricks has been pushed back until sometime in 2009. That means anyone interested in purchasing an engraved brick for $50 can do so up until June of next year.

Originally a fundraiser for the 2008 Grad Night at Shadle, Spitzer said that the school’s booster club will eventually take over the project and benefit from the funds.

Bricks are 4 inches by 8 inches and there is room for engraving 18 characters a line for three lines on each brick.

Former teachers, students, or anyone with a fondness for the school can purchase a brick.

Spitzer said that they have sold 350 bricks so far. There are 2,568 bricks available.

The engraving will be done by Trasko Monument. Garco Construction is in charge of the installation.

Forms are still available at the Shadle Park High School Web site, www.spokaneschools.org /shadle, or e-mail Spitzer at spcooutlaw1@hotmail.com.
