Meet your Neighbor

Carl Gidlund Correspondent

Name: Norwood “Woody” Borsvold

Age: 83

Hometown: I was born in Sinai, S.D., and worked in several places, but moved here in 1979.

Occupation: After serving in the Navy during World War II, I attended the University of Minnesota, then worked as a courier for the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, N.M. I transferred to the Bureau of Land Management in southern Idaho in 1956, then to Alaska with the BLM in 1972 and moved here when I retired in 1979. I was an administrative officer and budget analyst with the BLM.

Family: Hazel and I have been married for 57 years. We have four daughters, Carol Christianson in Coeur d’Alene; Gail Johnston in Port Orchard, Wash.; Joan Chamberlin, Ames, Iowa; and Teresa Dinger, Pocatello, Idaho.

Hobbies: Wood working, especially scroll work.

What do you like about North Idaho? We really like our church, Christ the King Lutheran where we’ve been members for 28 years. But we like just about everything here including the trees and the animals. Only thing we don’t care too much for is that it’s growing a little too fast.

What do you like or dislike about the current season? A few of the days have been a bit uncomfortable, but they don’t bother us too much.

Favorite music: Chorale. We’ve sung in church choirs for 40 years.

Favorite TV show: Sports programs, especially the Mariners and Seahawks, and we also watch lots of PBS programs.

Favorite movie: Any western with Jimmy Stewart.

Favorite spot in North Idaho? Why? Coeur d’Alene and the lake. This is a great place to live.
