Easter events, services planned

Easter is upon us and numerous Valley churches will be celebrating Christ’s resurrection with special services, dramatic presentations, children’s activities and other events.

•Spokane Valley Assembly of God Church will host performances of the resurrection drama “The Passion” at 6 p.m. today and Sunday. Admission is free, and all are welcome. The church is at 15618 E. Broadway Ave.

•The children of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will perform “A Jellybean Easter” during the 10 a.m. service on Sunday. The church will also have an early service at 8 a.m. An Easter brunch and egg hunt will follow the service at 10. The church is at 15319 E. Eighth Ave.

•The congregation of Millwood Presbyterian Church will host its annual sunrise Easter service at 7 a.m. Sunday at the Arbor Crest Winery, 4705 N. Fruithill Road. Additional services will be held at the church, at 3223 N. Marguerite Road, at 9:30 and 11 a.m.

•Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will host its annual Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Saltese Cemetery. To reach the cemetery head south on Sullivan Road from Sprague Avenue and turn left on Saltese Road.

Additional services will be held at the church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. An Easter breakfast will be served between services.

•Opportunity Christian Church will host an Easter breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday before the worship service at 10:30. An Easter egg hunt will be follow the service. The church is at 708 N. Pines Road.

•Easter morning services will begin at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave. An Easter egg hunt for Sunday school students will be at 9:30 a.m.

The youth of the church also will serve an Easter breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The menu includes ham, hash browns, pancakes and fruit. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds benefiting youth activities.

•Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road, will host two services in celebration of Easter. Worship services will be at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday.

•A sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday at Foothills Community church, 11102 N. Forker Road. A continental breakfast will follow. The church also will have Easter services at 9 and 11 a.m.

•Easter services will begin at 9, 10 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road.

•Zion Lutheran church will have a traditional Easter service with the Chancel Choir and Brass Quintet at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. A breakfast will be served from 9:45 to 10:40 a.m., with children in preschool through second grade taking a break for an egg hunt at 10. A contemporary Easter service with the worship team will follow at 11. Those attending are encouraged to bring cut flowers to decorate the cross. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.

•The Veradale United Church of Christ will have an informal early Easter service at 9 a.m. Sunday, followed by a breakfast at 9:30. A more formal service will begin at 10:30 and that will be followed by an Easter egg hunt. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.

•Redeemer Lutheran Church will host its annual community Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. today for children through the fifth grade. There will also be a petting zoo, jumping castle and a free hot dog lunch. The church is at 3606 S. Schafer Road.

Annual auction

Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host its 17th annual Spring into Camping auction next Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. The evening will include a dinner, silent auction and oral auction. Dinner tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will be used to send church youth to summer camp.
