In brief: Neighborhood Watch meeting Wednesday

A Neighborhood Watch community meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ponderosa Elementary, 10105 E. Cimmaron Drive.

Participants will learn crime prevention tools, how to develop a neighborhood skills and equipment inventory and how to map a neighborhood. The event also will address how to respond to a disaster. At least one person from each block in the area should attend.

The event is sponsored by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office neighborhood watch coordinator. Call 477-3055 for more information.

PASADENA PARK

Pasadena Park Elementary plans celebration

Past graduates of Pasadena Park Elementary are invited to participate in an upcoming 50th anniversary celebration planned April 10.

Former students are asked to send in a picture and an education biography and information about their careers. Information can be mailed to the school at 8508 E. Upriver Drive, Spokane, WA 99212 or e-mailed to robyn.davis@wvsd.com.

Past teachers and principals are also invited to attend the open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new additions. Call the school at 922-5408 for more information.

SPOKANE VALLEY

Benefit Bow Tie dinner next Saturday

The Spokane Valley Partners Auxiliary will host its 2008 Bow Tie Dinner next Saturday at 6 p.m. at Decades at University City.

The evening includes dinner, wine, dancing and prizes. The grand prize for the evening is a $4,000 trip voucher through AAA Travel. Proceeds will benefit Spokane Valley Partners programs.

The cost is $125 per person or $1,000 for a table of eight. Call 927-1153, ext. 13, for tickets.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit cancer patient

The Spokane Valley Good Samaritan will host a spaghetti dinner and bake sale next Saturday to benefit employee Dorothy Maidhoff, who has cancer in her spine and bones.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. and some prizes will be raffled off. The cost is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Maidhoff has worked at Good Samaritan for 40 years. Proceeds will be used for medical expenses. Good Samaritan is at 17121 E. Eighth Ave. Call 924-6161 ext. 310 for more information.

Donations for Maidhoff can also be dropped off at any U.S. Bank location.
