Ferry system passes state audit

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

EVERETT – For the first time in 21 years, the Washington State Ferries system has passed an audit with flying colors.

State Auditor Brian Sonntag is pleased not to have to scold the agency again. In the past, the state ferries department has been criticized for not knowing exactly how many tickets are sold and how much money is collected from riders.

This year’s audit – concluded this month – says the state agency has corrected the problem with its electronic fare system.

The audit also shows that the ferry system has fixed a problem keeping track of gasoline credit cards and state-owned vehicles.
