Give local women a chance

The Spokesman-Review

It’s nice to live in the Pacific Northwest. We have normally four seasons of weather. No smog. Traffic is iffy depending on where you live.

My reason for this letter is we always come up with a few super athletes who go on to professional careers and become household names. Why do female athletes at Gonzaga or Washington State get the shaft?

These women play their hearts out and have a good season. They might not win a championship game but finish in first place in their league. I think when tournaments start they should be considered for at least a chance to compete in a national tournament like their male counterparts.

I have lived in different parts of the country and the Northwest becomes a forgotten area in sports. There are so many people who don’t even know where Spokane is, for example. When you mention you are from Washington, people think you mean Washington D.C. Hey, let’s give our ladies a chance. They are people and athletes, too.
