Howard carries Dallas over Clippers

Josh Howard took over a tight game midway through the third quarter, carrying the Dallas Mavericks past the Los Angeles Clippers 103-90 on Tuesday night in Dallas, in their first game since losing Dirk Nowitzki to injury.

Dallas led only 60-58 when Howard got rolling.

Howard scored 20 of the Mavericks’ next 26 points, putting them up by 16 early in the fourth quarter. He finished with 32 points.

Hornets 114, Pacers 106: At Indianapolis, David West had 35 points and 16 rebounds, and New Orleans beat Indiana.

Chris Paul had 31 points and 14 assists as the Hornets won their fourth straight to maintain the best record (48-21) in the Western Conference.

Spurs 107, Magic 97: At Orlando, Fla., Manu Ginobili scored 28 points and Michael Finley added 24 as San Antonio beat Orlando.

Dwight Howard had 24 points and 21 rebounds for Orlando.

Bulls 103, Hawks 94: At Chicago, Drew Gooden scored a season-high 31 points and matched a season best with 16 rebounds as the Bulls held on in the fourth quarter for a victory over Atlanta.

Jazz 128, Bobcats 106: At Salt Lake City, Carlos Boozer had 28 points and 13 rebounds, and Deron Williams added 14 points and 15 assists to lead Utah over Charlotte.

Mehmet Okur also had a double-double for Utah with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Trail Blazers 102, Wizards 82: At Portland, Martell Webster had 23 points; Travis Outlaw added 20 and the Trail Blazers overcame the loss of top scorer Brandon Roy to beat Washington.

Roy left the game with a groin injury.

Three owners were impressed enough with a presentation to believe Oklahoma City should be the future home for the Seattle SuperSonics. To make his relocation request a reality, Sonics owner Clay Bennett needs to win over at least 13 more of his peers. … Commissioner David Stern shot down a proposal by a group of Seattle businessmen seeking to renovate KeyArena in order to keep the SuperSonics in Seattle. … Chris Webber is ending his comeback attempt with the Golden State Warriors and will retire after 15 seasons. … The Indiana Pacers insist Donnie Walsh has not agreed to oversee basketball operations for the New York Knicks after the season.
