CC Spokane’s Gregg will play for Whitworth
Bo Gregg headlined a list of six men’s basketball players coming to Whitworth for the 2008-2009 season.
Gregg, a 6-foot-5 forward and 2006 graduate of Lewiston High School, was the leading scorer for the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch and was named second-team All-East Region.
Joining Gregg will be Troy Kalbhenn, a transfer from West Valley College (Saratoga, Calif.), and a first-team all-Peninsula Athletic League pick; Felix Friedt, a 6-8 post from Dusseldorf, Germany, and a Mark Morris High (Longview, Wash.) graduate in 2006; Jordan Call, a 6-3 shooting guard who averaged 17.9 points per game at Juanita High (Kirkland, Wash.); and Michael Taylor, a 6-8 post from Aspen (Colo.) High School.
Administration
The University of Washington is still hoping to name a new athletic director by June. It won’t be interim athletic director Scott Woodward.
The temporary replacement for ousted A.D. Todd Turner said he is not going to be a candidate for the full-time position that has been open since Turner was forced out by university president Mark Emmert.
Woodward will go back to his job as the UW’s vice president for external affairs, though he will remain closely involved with the athletic department.
•Idaho director of athletics Rob Spear has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Legislative Council – one of two top-tier governing bodies in the organization. The council evaluates proposals during the legislative cycle.
Women’s basketball
Shaena-Lyn Kuehu of Hawaii became the latest recruit to sign with new University of Idaho head coach Jon Newlee. She joins Kimberly Crandell, a 5-11 post from Palo Cedro, Calif., and Jessica Graham, a 6-0 post from Ripon, Calif., as the team’s signees.
Softball
Bree Harbour hit a walk-off grand slam to lead North Idaho College (35-20) past Colorado Northwestern (3-49) 12-1 in the first game of double-elimination Scenic West Athletic Conference regional play at Bruin Field in Salt Lake City.
Harbour’s shot forced the game to end early in the sixth inning because of the 10-run rule. NIC’s Lindsey Stark was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Jessica Fagan added a pair of RBIs and runs.
NIC lost its second game 7-3 to Southern Idaho (43-19). CSI’s Cassi Merrill was 2 for 4 with five RBIs and Rachele Kroll was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
