Royals 2, Indians 0: At Cleveland, Gil Meche pitched seven shutout innings, a throwing error by third baseman Casey Blake broke a scoreless tie and Kansas City beat the Indians. Miguel Olivo added a solo homer in the ninth for the Royals.

Blue Jays 4, White Sox 3: At Toronto, Roy Halladay won for the first time in four starts and the Blue Jays handed Chicago its fifth straight loss. Halladay (3-4) had thrown complete games in his previous four starts. He lasted 71/3 innings, giving up three runs – one earned – and three hits, walked none and struck out seven.

Red Sox 7, Rays 3: At Boston, Kevin Youkilis had four RBIs and Jon Lester pitched six innings to lift the Red Sox over Tampa Bay. After being swept for the first time in franchise history by the Rays last weekend, the Red Sox outscored the Rays 26-10 in the series.

Twins 7, Tigers 6: At Minneapolis, Joe Mauer capped a rally from a six-run deficit with a two-run single in the seventh to lift the Twins past Detroit for their fifth straight win. A two-out error in the inning by Carlos Guillen set up a four-run surge and ruined a strong start by Kenny Rogers.

Angels 6, Orioles 5: At Anaheim, Calif., Gary Matthews Jr. and Torii Hunter homered in the first inning and Los Angeles beat Baltimore despite a poor outing by Joe Saunders (6-0). Saunders allowed four runs and a career-high 12 hits, struck out one and walked none.

Athletics 3, Rangers 1: At Oakland, Jack Cust hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning that helped lift the Athletics over Texas, ending the Rangers’ four-game winning streak . Santiago Casilla (1-0) threw a scoreless seventh for the win, and has yet to allow a run in his 161/3 innings.
