Speak up, Dr. Arévalo

The Spokesman-Review

I attended Eastern’s annual Killin’ Dinner last weekend. The event was fantastic and well attended. However, a reccurring theme at EWU events has left me frustrated.

EWU President Dr. Arévalo continues to fail to address event attendees. The same issue has taken place at the past two Governor Martin Galas as well as other EWU-sponsored functions. This is like a politician attending a fund-raiser for themselves and not speaking.

I respect and understand he is a reserved individual, but ultimately public speaking is part of his job.

As the representative of the university, he should offer recognition to EWU supporters and provide excitement about the institution he oversees.

If Eastern is truly going to “Start Something Big,” then I believe Dr. Arévalo needs to start by being more visible at such functions.
