Stacks of fun found at Library Party

The Spokesman-Review

W e pulled our chairs out of study carrels and moved them over to the wide windows overlooking the Spokane River.

We ate salmon and nibbled on good fruit and cheeses.

We sipped wine and martinis and listened to the band. Some of us danced to the tunes of Six Foot Swing.

There was lively music, lots of laugher and plenty of good conversation. And at no time did anyone tell us to “hold it down.”

Who says you can’t have that kind of fun in the library?

At the second “You Can’t Do That in the Library” Spokane Public Library Foundation fundraiser, the second floor of the downtown library building was the scene of the party. Guests including Spokane Mayor Mary Verner, Drs. Terence Allen and Kim Thorburn, arts supporters Frank and Sherry Knott, and Spokane Dinner Club members Pip and Mark Witner, started the evening with a gondola ride across the pounding Spokane Falls and toured the Fuller collection in the Northwest Room. After the buffet, by Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar, a volunteer storyteller entertained the crowd, and foundation director Sandra Kerneman and library director, Pat Partovi named longtime employee and supporter Toni Savalli Friends of the Library Volunteer of the Year.

If you weren’t there for this year’s event, you’re overdue for a little fun in the stacks. When the party rolls around next year, I’d advise you to check it out.
