Jargon 2.0: Captcha

The Spokesman-Review

Captcha (n.)

A captcha is a computer program — usually in the form of a visual challenge — that protects sites against automated Internet bots by generating and grading tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot. For example, a captcha will list four or five twisted or distorted letters against a pattern of crosshatched lines.
