The Slice

The Spokesman-Review

Cathy Donovan’s mother had expressed a desire to have her remains cremated and sprinkled “somewhere pretty.”

So Donovan and her husband took those ashes to a waterfront campground. “We had purchased a large biodegradable container made to look like a floating flower, to launch her ashes onto the lake,” she said.

Not wanting to discuss their plans with strangers at the boat dock, they walked the eye-catching urn down the shore and placed it near the water. But before they could return to that spot in their borrowed paddleboat, another family picked up the ashes container and placed it in their own boat. A chase across the lake ensued, culminating in the Donovans reclaiming the urn.

“Mom had a good sense of humor so I know she was laughing the whole time in heaven.”
