Adventure calls, Indy finally answers
With the flourish of those John Williams-inspired horns, movie hero Indiana Jones charges back into theaters today after a 19-year absence.
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” marks the series’ fourth installment. The Steven Spielberg-directed, George Lucas-produced film comes nearly two decades after the most recent entry, 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
Harrison Ford returns as an older-but-maybe- wiser Jones, reprising the character he created for 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and followed up in 1984’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” In this installment, Indy becomes entangled in a plot to uncover the secret behind some mysterious artifacts. Early reviews are mixed, ranging from raves to outright dismissals, but that’s not likely to affect the box-office take this Memorial Day weekend, when the film will play in a whopping 4,240 theaters.
