Bayview plans to have a Blast

Herb Huseland Correspondent

“Blast” which stands for Bayview Local Artists Show and Tell, looks to be just that. A really big show is planned for Saturday at the Bayview Community Center.

Running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., this extravaganza is a biggie. Free to the public for viewing, there will be hourly raffles, with proceeds going to the Bayview Community Center. The center is on the north side of town across from the post office.

Along with visual arts, music will be provided during the fair by five artists, including Leon Atkinson from KPBX radio, famed guitarist and master of ceremonies on the “Guitar Hour” heard on Spokane Public Radio.

Judy Gullidge – no small guitar and folk talent herself – will also perform. Brenda Hunt, Sister Moon, Change Long and Brandon Broker round out the entertainment. Visual artists showing both original paintings and prints of their work are: Karl Andreasson, clay/watercolors; Noura Andreasson, photography; Patricia Bennett, hand quilting; Bettie Bockstruck, oils, Beverly Gallegos, oils; Rhonda Roban Brausey, Polaroid transfers; Judy Gullidge, watercolors; Brenda Hunt, mixed media; Leata Judd, Papier mache; Daris Judd, jewelry; Susie Snyder, pastels and aroma therapy; and Amy Wilkerson, watercolors.

Just behind and on the lower level of the Community Center parking area will be a gigantic community yard sale sponsored by BABS, representing Bayview, Athol, Belmont and the Bayview Community Council. This is a fundraiser for the charitable projects generated by both organizations. Hours for the sale are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., also on Saturday.

U.S. 95 roadwork planned

The old saw regarding North Idaho seasons, (winter and road construction) is about to begin. In this case, it will be both a blessing and a curse, as U.S. Highway 95 from Highway 53 to Ohio Match Road is finally going to be widened.

The first section, that of Highway 53 to Ohio Match, will be completed this summer. The next sections, from Ohio Match to Sagle, will be done in subsequent years, subject to permits and rights-of-way acquisition. When this first phase is completed, Silverwood will be bypassed to the east through Rickel Ranch, then swing back to the west just north of Athol and Highway 54.

Initially, access will be as it is now, but in the future, the state plans to turn the new highway into an interstate freeway with limited access. The path past Silverwood will follow Sylvan Road across Highway 54.

Memorial Day ceremonies

American Legion Post 149 will perform Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday at Bayview Community Center at 9 a.m. and at the post in Athol at 1 p.m. Following the memorial will be a flag-retirement ceremony at the post. Anyone who has an American flag that is worn and needs to be disposed of should drop it off or bring it to the post on Monday for proper disposal.

Following the formal occasion will be a barbecue with a requested $5 donation.
