Northwest Christian captures boys title

Third-place John Graham and fourth-place Jared Descoteaux led Northwest Christian to the State 2B/1B championship Wednesday at Lake Padden Golf Course in Bellingham.

Graham’s two-day total of 156 trailed medalist Craig Crawford of Highland Christian Schools by 12 strokes. Descoteaux finished at 159. Graham (79) was one of four golfers to break 80 on the final day.

The Crusaders finished with 128.6 points to edge Orcas Island by six. Also scoring for NWC were Brandon Drake, 15th, 171; Travis McConahy, 18th, 174; and Jeff Gullickson, tied for 28th, 182.

Wilbur-Creston’s Colton Berg placed sixth at 162. Odessa’s Zack Powell tied for eighth at 167.

•In the 2B/1B girls tourney, also at Lake Padden, medalist Kristin Rue (159) led Life Christian Academy to a runaway victory. Odessa’s Kira Powell placed third at 180.

Matt Rawitzer of Squalicum shot 139 at Bellingham Golf and Country Club to win boys medalist honors by four shots. O’Dea put two golfers in the top 10 to win the team title. No Greater Spokane League competitor made the final round. … Kristin Tan of Holy Names Academy fired her second consecutive 74 to win the girls title by three shots at Shuksan Golf Club in Bellingham. Enumclaw won the team title with three golfers in the top 20. East Valley’s Jenni White, the lone GSL player in the final round, tied for 33rd at 189.

Hockinson, with four golfers in the top six, including medalist Gaston De La Torre (134), ran away with the boys title at Loomis Trail Golf and Country Club in Blaine. Deer Park’s Corey Meyers (144) tied for fourth with two Hockinson golfers. Pullman’s Dillon Williams (151) tied for 12th and Colville’s Casey Cox (155) tied for 16th. … Sehome’s girls (106 points) edged Burlington-Edison by two for the team title at Homestead Golf Course in Lynden. Bellingham’s Claire Rachor (155) won medalist honors by four strokes. West Valley’s Jordyn Sodorff tied for 16th at 187. Pullman had three competitors in the final round, topped by Emily McCormick (190), who tied for 22nd.

Chris Johnson of Chimacum finished two days at North Bellingham Golf Course at 148, one shot ahead of Jack Whealdon of boys team champion Ilwaco (86.5 points). Freeman (67.5) placed third, led by Dylan Maine, tied for 12th at 160; Max Riggs, tied for 18th at 162; and Tyler Barrong, 24th at 164. … Also at North Bellingham GC, Kelli Bowers of Chelan finished at 156 to win girls medalist by 15 shots. Runner-up Alyson Peters guided Overlake to the team title. Chewelah’s Gracie Schory (179) placed fourth and Freeman’s Darby Moberg (192) tied for seventh.
