Pottery handmade by students at the school, a “sweet little puppy,” more than 100 bottles of wine and weekend vacation packages are among the items up for bid at Sorensen’s second annual Auction and Soiree.

Money raised at the Friday event will support programs at Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and the Humanities. The Coeur d’Alene public school is the only magnet school for arts and humanities in the region.

Students – who start their school day 40 minutes earlier than other elementary students in the district – study everything from juggling and African drumming to dance, theater and pottery, in addition to their academic studies.

Last year’s auction raised more than $40,000 for the school.

Teacher David Groth will be emcee for the event and incoming Principal Jim Gray will perform with his band, the Rhythm Dawgs.

The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Eagles with a social hour and silent auction, followed by a live auction at 6 p.m. and dinner catered by Angelo’s Ristorante. Dancing to the band begins at 9.

Tickets are $50 per person and available at the North Idaho College Boswell Hall ticket center, 769-7780, or by calling Sorensen at 664-2822.

Donations are still being accepted for the auction. To donate an item contact Amy Evans at 640-3451.
