Monday

“A Salute to Hometown Veterans” – A presentation by panelists from various branches of the U.S. armed forces.

Tuesday

Veterans Day ceremony – Members of Fairchild Air Force Base will take part in an annual ceremony hosted by Airway Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars at the Fort George Wright Military Cemetery. The ceremony will conclude with the removal of the flag, which is flown at the cemetery from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. Fairchild owns the cemetery; those interred there represent all major branches of the service.

“Radioman: An Eyewitness Account of Pearl Harbor and World War II in the Pacific” – Spokane author Carol Edgemon Hipperson will read from her nonfiction book. 7:30 p.m., Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main, Spokane. Free. (509) 838-0206.

Veterans Day 2008 – Celebrate Veterans Day at the Veterans Memorial Arena. 10 a.m., in the Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave. (509) 444-8387.

Wreath-laying ceremony – Hosted by American Legion 14, the ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the bell in downtown Coeur d’Alene’s Third Street parking lot.

Veterans Day Ceremony Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7315 N. Government Way, 2 p.m. Hosted by Marine Corps League 966.

Veterans Day Ceremony Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum, 11 a.m. A veterans dinner will be served by VFW Post 9894 Auxiliary from 5-7 p.m. at the Rathdrum Lions on state Highway 53 next to the cemetery.

Thursday

Women Veterans’ Recognition Day

This 16th annual event will include an art exhibit and health fair.
