Names to know

Lawrence Guy Arizona State defensive tackle

It’s not easy fighting off 22- and 23-year-old offensive linemen as a true freshman, but Guy has been doing a good job of it. Of course, at 6-foot-5 and 276 pounds, Guy isn’t your typical freshman. He also isn’t typical for a guy his size, with the quickness of a smaller athlete. Guy, from Las Vegas, has started five games this season and has a hand in 32 tackles, including 5.5 behind the line of scrimmage. ASU coach Dennis Erickson spoke highly of his prized freshman this week.

Zach Enyeart WSU long snapper

Ask most football coaches and they’ll tell you the most underrated position on the field is long snapper. Their names are usually only uttered when something bad happens. In Enyeart, the Cougars have one of the Pac-10’s most reliable, whether it’s for punts or place-kicks. But there is a slight chance the sophomore may be out this week with a shoulder injury, and that worries special teams coordinator Steve Broussard. Keep an eye on backup Chris Prummer.

Keegan Herring Arizona State running back

The senior’s career in Tempe has been pockmarked by injuries, and that hasn’t changed this season. That, however, hasn’t stopped Herring from moving up the ASU rushing ladder, where he resides in 10th place. Herring missed three of the first four games, and played sparingly in the win over Stanford. Still, he has 308 yards rushing, almost half (144) on a season-high 22 carries last week at Washington. Expect a healthy serving of Herring today.
