NC’s boys dominate Nike

Jeff Howard made sure North Central continued its cross country dominance Saturday.

With Howard winning the individual championship, the Indians put four runners among the top 10 scorers to capture the Nike Northwest Region cross country championship in Boise.

The Indians had 32 points, 74 points better than the runner-up team, to advance to the Nike Nationals Dec. 6 in Portland.

Howard won a photo finish, completing the 3-mile course in 15 minutes, 27 seconds, two-hundreds of a second in front of Barak Watson of Nampa, Idaho. Overall, NC’s Andrew Kimple was fourth, Leon Dean was ninth and Ben Johnson 13th, although some of the runners ahead of them were running as individuals.

Girls basketball

Bonners Ferry 55, Kellogg 22: Alicia Hendricks had 15 points as the Badgers (2-0) won the Silver Valley Tournament at Kellogg (1-1). Katelin Clausen added 10 points for BF, which led 31-13 at halftime.

Wallace 57, Mullan 16: The Miners (1-1) raced to a 35-8 lead in the first half to beat the Tigers (0-20 for third in the Silver Valley Tournament.
