Tigercats win 1B volleyball

Kelly Zimmer had 15 kills and four aces and Cherish Summers didn’t miss a serve in the championship match as the LaCrosse-Washtucna Tigercats outlasted Moses Lake Christian to win the 1-B State volleyball championship in Yakima.

Lacrosse-Washtucna won 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 15-11. The final set ended at 12:15 a.m. Sunday.

“This was Lacrosse-Washtucna’s best match of the tourney,” coach Sandy Martin said. “No one on the team had been in a championship game. We wanted to win well, or if we lost we wanted to play hard.”

Lacrosse-Washtucna’s Gladys Martinez led with 29 assists. Summers had 13 digs to go along with a perfect 17-for-17 serving. Chelsea McKay had three blocks.
