Hannah Montana is fundraiser’s theme

The Hannah Montana “Rock the World” Party will be at the Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave., on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

The party is for kids ages 5 to 12. Activities include making a music video, having a star photo shoot, and making a DVD from Hannah Montana’s music. There will be snacks and party favors.

Tickets are $29 and must be purchased in advance.

Proceeds from this Kids-Helping-Kids benefit will support children’s programs in the Hillyard community.

Kiwanis event will benefit kids’ camp

The 10th annual Christmas Breakfast and Raffle for Kids, sponsored by the Northeast Spokane Kiwanis, will be Dec. 5. The yearly benefit will be held in the Georgian Room at the Spokane Club, 1002 W. Riverside Ave., at 7 a.m. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.

Those in attendance will include Mayor Mary Verner.

Proceeds will support the Kiwanis service initiatives, including Camps for Kids.

Claus, company to visit senior center

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and all of the elves from the North Pole are taking a break from their busy schedule to visit the good girls and boys and their families for breakfast on Dec. 13 at the Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.

The holiday celebration will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $12 for children.

A breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausages, juice and coffee will be offered. As a special treat, peppermint ice cream will be served.

Holiday festivities include a story read by Mrs. Claus, arts and crafts by Santa’s elves, and everybody can get their Christmas pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Santa will have a special present for each child to take home.

Reservations must be made before Dec. 1.

Former professor Fenton Duvall dies

Fenton Duvall, a former Whitworth University history professor died peacefully on Nov. 11. He was 96.

Duvall became a professor at Whitworth in 1949. During his tenure he co-founded the Core program and became the first faculty member to lead an international January Term study program. He also served as dean of students for four years.

A memorial service was held at his residence at the John Knox Village Retirement Center, in Pompano Beach, Fla., on Nov. 15.

Memorial gifts may be made to the R. Fenton Duvall Endowed Scholarship Fund at Whitworth. Contributions can be sent to the Whitworth University Office of Institutional Advancement, 300 W. Hawthorne Road.
