Hawaii shuts down Vandals

Associated Press

Greg Alexander passed for a career-best three touchdowns and ran for another score as Hawaii routed Idaho 49-17 on Saturday night in Honolulu.

Daniel Libre rushed for two scores in the second half and Malcolm Lane had four catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors (6-5, 5-3 Western Athletic Conference), who moved within a victory of securing a berth to the Hawaii Bowl and broke the .500 mark for the first time this season.

The Warriors improved to 9-1 against the Vandals (2-10, 1-7), and the defeat ended Idaho’s season. It was Idaho’s ninth straight losing season.

The loss was also the 14th straight on the road for the Vandals, who came out firing and easily scored on their opening series but lost steam throughout the game.

A 6-yard TD hookup between Nathan Enderle and Peter Bjorvik gave Idaho a 7-0 lead. Enderle was 6 of 7 for 58 yards on the 13-play, 74-yard drive.

The Vandals didn’t see the end zone again until the fourth quarter when Enderle threw a 3-yard TD pass to Eric Greenwood. Enderle was 19 of 31 for 164 yards and was pressured all night.

(9) Boise State 41, Nevada 34: Kellen Moore threw for 414 yards and three touchdowns and the Broncos kept the nation’s best rushing offense in check, beating the Wolf Pack at Reno, Nev.

Moore threw for 319 yards by halftime, when the Broncos led 24-3.

Ian Johnson broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Boise State, which turned back a late Nevada rally to clinch its sixth WAC title in seven years. The Broncos (11-0, 7-0 WAC) close the regular season Friday at home against Fresno State.

Colin Kaepernick passed for 241 yards and a touchdown and ran for 70 yards for Nevada (6-5, 4-3 WAC), which got the ball back with 1:34 left in the game near midfield and moved to Boise’s 26 on Kaepernick’s 28-yard pass to Chris Wellington with 28 seconds remaining.

A delay of game penalty pushed Nevada back and Kaepernick’s next three passes fell incomplete. On fourth-and-13, Brandyn Thompson and Kyle Wilson knocked down his throw to Marko Mitchell in the end zone as time expired.

Louisiana Tech 35, New Mexico State 31: Daniel Porter ran for 130 yards on 17 carries as the Bulldogs (7-4, 5-2) beat the Aggies (3-8, 1-6) at Las Cruces, N.M.

Louisiana Tech claimed its first victory in Las Cruces and tied the series between the conference foes at 4-4.
