The matchups

By Terry Bannon Chicago Tribune

Eagles at Ravens

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Ravens by 1 1/2 .

Records: Eagles (5-4-1); Ravens (6-4)

Eagles: Philadelphia and Donovan McNabb have bigger issues than memorizing overtime rules. McNabb has thrown five INTs in last three games, and if the Eagles can only score 13 in five quarters vs. Bengals, what can they do against this defense?

Ravens: Baltimore is playing confidently after going 2-1 on the road the last three weeks. Ravens will need their defense to carry this one. Rookie QB Joe Flacco will be challenged.

Fantasy outlook: Eagles’ DeSean Jackson is second among NFL rookies with 652 receiving yards and 42 receptions. Willis McGahee leads Ravens with 481 rushing yards and has run for five scores.

Injuries: Ravens receiver Derrick Mason has a sore shoulder.

Texans at Browns

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Browns by 3.

Records: Texans (3-7); Browns (4-6)

Texans: Houston has been trying to win with backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels, who isn’t getting much help from a defense that has allowed 102 points during current three-game losing streak.

Browns: Cleveland is 1-1 with Brady Quinn as starting QB. He has thrown two TD passes and hasn’t been intercepted in 71 throws.

Fantasy outlook: Rookie Steve Slaton is third in AFC with 701 yards rushing, averaging 5.1 per carry with six TDs. Jamal Lewis averages a modest 3.6 yards with four rushing TDs.

Injuries: Browns tight end Kellen Winslow likely out with shoulder injury.

49ers at Cowboys

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Cowboys by 9 1/2 .

Records: 49ers (3-7); Cowboys (6-4)

49ers: Journeyman QB Shaun Hill continues to be effective, keeping it simple and giving the ball to Frank Gore. 49ers still seek first victory against a winning team.

Cowboys: Tony Romo wasn’t dynamic in his return last week, but picking off a win at Washington is always big for the Cowboys. Dallas needs this one and vs. Seattle next week to stay in playoff race.

Fantasy outlook: Hill has thrown five TD passes and only two INTs for passer rating of 91.6. Marion Barber averaging only 4.0 per carry, but has run for six TDs.

Injuries: Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has sore ribs.

Bucs at Lions

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Bucs by 8.

Records: Bucs (7-3); Lions (0-10)

Bucs: With leading rusher Earnest Graham out for the year, Bucs must rebuild running game with vet Warrick Dunn and Cadillac Williams.

Lions: Detroit has been outscored 69-36 in the two games since signing quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Nothing seems to work.

Fantasy outlook: Jeff Garcia (five TD passes vs. three INTs) could have a nice day against a defense that has allowed at least 25 points in the last six games. Calvin Johnson continues to be bright spot with seven TD catches for Lions.

Injuries: Bucs’ Graham (ankle) is out for the year.

Vikings at Jaguars

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Jaguars by 2 1/2 .

Records: Vikings (5-5); Jaguars (4-6)

Vikings: Minnesota tries to keep at least a piece of first place in the NFC North in its second straight game in Florida (lost to Bucs last week).

Jaguars: Jacksonville put up a fight against unbeaten Titans before losing last week. Moving the ball in this one will be more difficult.

Fantasy outlook: Vikings are 5-3 with Gus Frerotte (11 TDs, 11 INTs) as starter. Jaguars’ David Garrard has thrown seven TD passes vs. two INT in last seven games

Injuries: Jaguars running back Fred Taylor (neck) is questionable.

Bills at Chiefs

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Bills by 3.

Records: Bills (5-5); Chiefs (1-9)

Bills: Buffalo’s resurgence ended with a four-game losing streak in which quarterback Trent Edwards has thrown eight interceptions and lost two fumbles. It’s never, however, just the quarterback.

Chiefs: True, Kansas City has lost 18 of its last 19 games. But it’s also true the Chiefs have been more competitive than the Bills in the last four weeks, losing by four, three in OT, one and 10. They’re due.

Fantasy outlook: Marshawn Lynch, coming off a 119-yard running day, has rushed for six TDs. Chiefs’ Tyler Thigpen continues to improve – eight TDs vs. one INT in last four games.

Injuries: Bills safety Donte Whitner (reinjured shoulder) and cornerback Jabari Greer (knee) are questionable.

Patriots at Dolphins

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Dolphins by 1.

Records: Patriots (6-4); Dolphins (6-4)

Patriots: The Pats are greatly improved since Dolphins blasted them 38-13 in Foxboro Sept. 21. They can have faith in QB Matt Cassel, who will need to make some big plays.

Dolphins: Miami has been living dangerously, beating Seahawks and Raiders at home by two points each the last two weeks. Defense has held last four foes to less than 20 points, but can Miami keep it up?

Fantasy outlook: Cassel has thrown 10 TD passes vs. seven INTs, and even ran for 62 yards in last week’s loss to Jets. Dolphins’ Chad Pennington having comeback year with eight TD passes vs. five INTs.

Injuries: Pats defensive end Richard Seymour has a sore toe.

Bears at Rams

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Bears by 7 1/2 .

Records: Bears (5-5); Rams (2-8)

Bears: Chicago has scored a total of 17 points in two straight losses, so offense again is the issue. Is Kyle Orton (ankle) healthy enough to get back to putting points on the board?

Rams: St. Louis has lost four straight by an average of 22.8 points under interim coach Jim Haslett. The Rams haven’t scored more than 16 points in the skid, and don’t figure to in this one without RB Steven Jackson (thigh).

Fantasy outlook: Bears’ Matt Forte leads rookies with 1,099 yards from scrimmage and 51 first downs and has scored seven TDs. Rams’ Donnie Avery is third among rookie receivers with 34 catches and 485 yards.

Injuries: Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace (knee) and RB Steven Jackson (thigh) are out.

Jets at Titans

Time: 10 a.m. Line: Titans by 5 1/2 .

Records: Jets (7-3); Titans (10-0)

Jets: New York is rested after Nov. 13 victory over Pats, and Brett Favre has Jets going for their first five-game winning streak since 1974. If they continue to score big, they can win.

Titans: Until they finish the season against Steelers and Colts, this is the Titans’ biggest chance for a loss, and they know it. Defense can turn it on.

Fantasy outlook: Thomas Jones on a roll for Jets with nine TDs in last six games and two straight 100-yard rushing days. Kerry Collins makes the Titans more of a passing team with five TD tosses in last two games.

Injuries: Titans cornerback Nick King (broken arm) is out. Titans running back LenDale White has a sore calf and Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis a sore shoulder.

Raiders at Broncos

Time: 1 p.m. Line: Broncos by 9.

Records: Raiders (2-8); Broncos (6-4)

Raiders: Oakland is bringing back memories of a cynical slogan from the 1980s – they’ve become the Raiders of the Lost Offense again. The offense hasn’t scored a touchdown in 13 quarters.

Broncos: Denver has won six of last seven and nine of 11 over the Raiders. Visitors rarely fare well in Denver, so Broncos should continue the trend.

Fantasy outlook: Tight end Zach Miller a key target with 29 catches, but only one TD. Broncos’ Jay Cutler is playing well, with four TD passes and one INT in last two games.

Injuries: Broncos running back Selvin Young (groin) is questionable.

Giants at Cardinals

Time: 1:15 p.m. Line: Giants by 3.

Records: Giants (9-1); Cardinals (7-3)

Giants: Super Bowl champs have won 13 of last 14 road games, and have consistently risen to challenges. This is another one.

Cardinals: Arizona has No. 2 offense in NFL, and in this game, Cards have the No. 2 offense. They can clinch NFC West with a win and some help.

Fantasy outlook: Giants’ Eli Manning is third in the NFC in passing with 15 TD passes and seven INTs. Cards’ Kurt Warner continues to lead NFL in passing with 20 TD passes and seven INTs.

Injuries: Giants RB Brandon Jacobs has a sore knee.

Panthers at Falcons

Time: 1:15 p.m. Line: Falcons by 1.

Records: Panthers (8-2); Falcons (6-4)

Panthers: Carolina goes for its fifth straight victory and the chance to keep the lead in the NFC South behind the running duo of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams.

Falcons: A big one for Falcons, who would fall three games out of first with a loss. They’ve lost only once at the Georgia Dome, but it was last week to Denver. Three of Falcons’ next four are in NFC South.

Fantasy outlook: Panthers’ Williams is going for his fourth game in a row with 100 rushing yards and a TD. Falcons’ Michael Turner averages 110 rushing yards and has run for eight TDs in five home games.

Injuries: Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis has a sore ankle. Falcons receiver Roddy White has a sore back.

Colts at Chargers

Time: 5:15 p.m. Line: Chargers by 3.

Records: Colts (6-4); Chargers (4-6)

Colts: Indianapolis is making a second-half charge to a familiar place, the playoffs. Peyton Manning has regained his old form, and defense is playing tougher.

Chargers: San Diego keeps finding ways to lose winnable games, like last week’s bizarre 11-10 affair at Pittsburgh. The magic appears gone, but Chargers did beat the Colts twice last season.

Fantasy outlook: Manning has thrown seven TD passes and zero interceptions during current three-game winning streak, and Chargers’ pass defense is a problem. Chargers’ Philip Rivers has thrown 21 TD passes vs. 10 INTs.

Injuries: Colts safety Bob Sanders (knee) is questionable. Colts defensive end Robert Mathis has a sore toe. Chargers defensive end Luis Castillo has a sore groin.
