LC’s Anderson headed to UW

Lewis and Clark senior Jeneva Anderson, a late entry in the Pacific-10 women’s recruiting picture, is going home.

Anderson, a 5-foot-11 wing, has made an oral commitment to play for the University of Washington.

It wasn’t until this summer at various tournaments that Pac-10 teams began to show interest, said LC coach Jim Redmon.

“I’ll tell you, she had a phenomenal summer,” he said.

It came down to either the Huskies or Washington State, but Anderson was swayed by the fact that she moved here from the Seattle area and has relatives there. Anderson said she pursued UW for that reason.

“I miss the Seattle area and really wanted to get back home. I was born in Seattle and lived there until I was 12,” Anderson said. “It came down to both of the Washington schools, but I really clicked with the Huskies and feel it is a great choice.”

Anderson has been on varsity since her sophomore year for the Tigers, who have won three consecutive State 4A titles.

She was their leading scorer last year with an 11.3 average.

Anderson said she improved her defense and shooting range over the summer.

Both players finished college careers last year.

GU’s Sacre faces surgery

Gonzaga University sophomore center Robert Sacre is scheduled for surgery today to repair what associate head coach Leon Rice said is an “incomplete fracture” in his foot.

Sacre, a 7-footer from North Vancouver, B.C., started 10 games and appeared in 29 as a true freshman last season. He averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Rice wasn’t familiar with all the details of the injury, but he said it’s apparently from wear and tear and not a specific incident on the court. It won’t be known how long Sacre will be sidelined until he undergoes surgery.

An incomplete fracture is described as when the bone cracks but does not break all the way through.
