Girl Scout open house planned Tuesday

Girls ages 5 to 12 will have an opportunity to learn basketball skills from Gonzaga University women’s basketball team members on Tuesday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the new Girl Scout Program Center, 1404 N. Ash St.

Girls will hear from the women athletes what it takes to excel in sports and in life, as well as gain personal instruction in basic basketball skills.

The clinic is part of an open house hosted by Girl Scouts Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho to showcase its new program center, which features a full-size gymnasium, rock-climbing wall, computer lab, learning kitchen and arts and crafts room. Girl Scout staff will be on hand to answer parents’ questions and register girls interested in becoming Girl Scouts.

SANE Spokane membership meeting Monday

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, or SANE, of Spokane is holding it’s a membership meeting on Monday at the Lutheran Community Services Building, 210 W. Sprague Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m.

SANE is a nationally recognized, standardized way of performing sexual assault examinations. SANE of Spokane is looking to develop a nonprofit group that could help with fundraising, training and community education.

Curves offers LIV-AID for women

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in celebration all Spokane area Curves Fitness Clubs for Women is distributing a breast self-examination aid called LIV-AID. The aid acts as a magnifying glass for your fingers when doing a self exam to more easily detect changes or abnormalities in your breast. Early detection is the key to fighting breast cancer.
