Horror movie guru Paine brings back Month of Macabre

They might as well call him Spokane’s Rob Zombie.

Rob Paine, our local ’80s horror movie enthusiast, has resurrected his Month of Macabre, featuring campy scary movies at area bars and culminating with a costume party and zombie march at the end of the month.

Thanks to Paine’s suffering, Spokane’s undead have plenty of chances to get into the haunted Halloween spirit. Here’s a detailed schedule of the festivities:

Sundays at The Baby Bar, 827 W. First Ave.

Drink special: Bloody Mary with creepy accoutrements

In the tradition of quirky filmmaking bartender Aaron Fink’s “Silly Sundays,” expect some very ridiculous and funny horror films.

Oct. 5 at 10 p.m.: “The Initiation” (1984)/“The Gingerdead Man” (2005)

Oct. 12 at 8 p.m.: “Vamp” (1986)/“Night of the Living Dorks” (2004)

Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.: “The Burning” (1981)/“Ice Cream Man” (1995)

Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.: “From a Whisper to a Scream” (1987)/“The Fog” (1980)

Features a movie and macabre DJ set plus video clips and horror movie trailers. First movie shows around 8 p.m. with Dick Wolf’s DJ set around 10 p.m.; Second movie starts at midnight.

In the tradition of Boozeday, all participating bars TBA, but expect all of the Month of Macabre locations plus many more. Pre-register at The Baby Bar/Neato Burrito to guarantee your t-shirt upon completion of the crawl ($10).

Oct. 31: Halloween Party at The Baby Bar/Neato Burrito

Costume party and contest with prizes, live bands and DJs featuring local favorites and a few sinister surprises. Details TBA.
