Animals of the Pacific Northwest Portion of Lewis and Clark’s Journey - Come explore a portion of Lewis and Clark’s famous journey from Montana to the Pacific Coast. This presentation will concentrate on the animals they discovered along this Northwestern section of their journey. The travelers kept meticulous journals, writing the first accounts of 122 animals and 178 trees and plants. In doing so they left an invaluable record of what America looks like 200 years ago. The explorers’ detailed observations of these animals are significant today not just to historians and scientists, but also to conservationists – Lewis and Clark’s vivid, engaging descriptions can be used as a yardstick for current wildlife conservation efforts and to inspire future generations of naturalists.
