Vandals outlast Wolf Pack

Haley Larsen collected 22 kills and Sarah Conwell added 17 to lead the Idaho Vandals to a 3-2 Western Athletic Conference volleyball win over the Nevada Wolf Pack (5-9, 1-4) Thursday at Reno, Nev. It was UI’s first win in Reno’s gym since 1997.

•At Greeley, Colo., Alysha Cook had 10 kills, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Northern Colorado (9-3, 3-1) from a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Washington (6-8, 3-2) in Big Sky Conference play.

•At San Diego, Amy DeGroot had 10 kills and 10 digs and Ali Troost had 11 kills to lead the San Diego Toreros (11-2) to a 3-0 sweep of the Gonzaga Bulldogs (6-10) in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark (5-0) beat host Shadle Park (3-2) 25-16, 11-25, 25-22, 25-13 as Chloe Rowand had 16 kills and Lindsey Will 18 digs. … Mead (4-0) topped host East Valley (3-2) 25-16, 25-21, 25-14 led by middle blocker Alexis Olgard’s 14 kills, seven digs and two blocks. … At Central Valley, the Bears (2-2) beat North Central (0-5) 3-0 as Emily Sarff had 10 digs.

Great Northern League: West Valley (5-1) defeated Colville (5-2) on the road 3-1 to remain in pursuit of unbeaten Pullman. Baily and Alyssa Wold combined for 22 kills. … Pullman (6-0) swept Clarkston (2-5) 25-8, 25-23, 25-4. … Serving by Mecca Rheingans lifted host Riverside (3-3) past Medical Lake (1-6) 25-22, 25-13, 25-19. … Cheney (1-5) won its first, topping visiting Deer Park (2-4) 3-2.

Inland Empire League: Coeur d’Alene (8-0) beat Lewiston (2-7) 25-18, 25-13, 25-14 at home on senior night. Kama Griffitts had 13 kills and Natalie Stewart 23 assists. … Host Sandpoint (9-1) beat Moscow (4-6) 25-7, 25-20, 25-9. Abby Helander served nine points in a row, had eight aces and 20 digs. … At home, Post Falls (2-6) swept Lake City (2-6) 25-15, 25-20, 25-22. Jalana White had eight kills and 13 assists.

Intermountain League: Freshman Marlee Masterson had 12 kills as St. Maries (6-0) swept visiting Timberlake (1-5) 25-14, 25-16, 25-13. … Priest River (6-1) beat Bonners Ferry (1-4) 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 at home. Taylor Stewart had 12 digs and three aces to go with her 10 kills.

Girls soccer

Great Northern League: Kaley Way led West Valley (7-0, 6-0) to a 5-0 win at Medical Lake (4-4, 3-3). Way scored four times, giving her 14 goals for the season. … Host Pullman (7-1, 6-0) kept pace with WV when it broke a 0-0 deadlock late in the second half for a 2-0 win over Deer Park (4-4, 3-3). Freshman Hannah Adams caught the Stags by surprise on an indirect free kick at the 71-minute mark. … Cheney (5-3, 4-2) won 7-0 in Clarkston (0-5, 0-5). North Star League: Kasey McKinnon passed for 143 yards and three touchdowns, scored on the ground and had 13 tackles at linebacker as Mullan (2-3) won 32-14 at Clark Fork.

Golf

Kent Brown of Colville fired a 1-under-par 70 to claim a one-stroke victory at the WSGA Senior Men’s Amateur Championship at Oakbrook G&CC at Lakewood, Wash.

The Spokane Shock signed a pair of defensive backs, Jimmie Sutton of North Carolina State and Chris Hemphill from Central Washington.
