Bengals activate Henry

From wire reports

Receiver Chris Henry was activated Saturday by the Cincinnati Bengals, setting up a possible matchup with Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, a former college teammate who has been in even more trouble.

The Bengals released running back Kenny Watson to open a roster spot for Henry. Watson sat out a 20-12 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday with a hamstring injury suffered during practice the previous week.

Henry was released by the Bengals (0-4) following his fifth arrest in the off-season. Owner Mike Brown took him back over the objections of coach Marvin Lewis.

Henry missed the first four games of the season because of his latest suspension for violating the NFL’s conduct policy. Henry also was suspended for the first eight games last season.

The Bengals could have waited until Monday to add Henry to the roster, but he looked good enough in practice this week to prompt the move. On Sunday in Dallas, he could be guarded by Jones, a former teammate at West Virginia who also has been in trouble repeatedly.

Both players were drafted in 2005. Jones, taken in the first round by Tennessee, was acquired by Dallas last April. The cornerback has been arrested six times and has been involved in a dozen incidents requiring police intervention. The NFL suspended him for all of last season.

Boldin has surgery

The Arizona Cardinals’ Anquan Boldin is out indefinitely following surgery on a facial bone fractured in a helmet-to-helmet hit during last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said the surgeon who operated the wide receiver’s fractured sinus on Thursday told him that a hockey player who underwent a similar procedure was playing 10 days later.

“And that’s a violent sport, too,” Whisenhunt said. “The doctor felt like it would give him the quickest chance to get back.”

Boldin was ruled out of today’s home game against the Buffalo Bills.

The NFL suspended Jets safety Eric Smith for one game and fined him $50,000 for the hit
