One man is dead and another man is in serious condition at a Spokane hospital after a double stabbing in Spokane’s Browne’s Addition on Sunday evening, police said.

A third man, either a witness or a suspect, was taken into custody by Spokane police officers. Major crimes detectives are investigating the incident.

Police responded to a report of a man stabbed at a home in the 1900 block of West First Avenue at 7:34 p.m., according to Officer Dave Daddato, a police spokesman.

Officers found two men in serious condition, and both were taken to a hospital. One is being treated for injuries, and the other died at the hospital, Daddato said.

After the injured men were taken from the scene by ambulance, officers aided by a K-9 unit searched a home at 1909 W. First and emerged about an hour after the original 911 call with a man in custody.

Daddato said no motive had been established for the attack. He could not provide identities of the men involved nor their relationship to one another.
