Hasselbeck, Rodgers to play

Two banged up quarterbacks and two teams that desparately need a win will square off Sunday in Seattle.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will miss some practice again this week.

“We’re going to go into the week planning on Aaron to play,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday.

Rodgers played against Atlanta on Sunday despite spraining his right shoulder in the previous week’s game. He played well, but the Packers still lost to the Falcons 27-24 and are 2-3 on the season.

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren says quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (above) iced his sore knee on the long plane ride back from New York, and he should be able to play against Green Bay. Seattle lost to the Giants and fell to 1-3.

A heel injury to receiver Deion Branch was being examined Monday, and Holmgren says he’s likely to miss more playing time.

Courts

Roof to be charged on two counts

Whitman County prosecutor Denis P. Tracy announced late Monday afternoon that former Washington State football player Andy Roof will be charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault for a spring off-campus incident in Pullman.

Roof was reportedly involved in an altercation at a late-night party in Pullman on April 26. At the time, Roof was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He has since been dismissed from school by the Washington State University Student Conduct Board.

Wrestling coach wins MMA debut

Lewis and Clark wrestling coach Ty Lingo made a successful Mixed Martial Arts debut at the Knitting Factory on Friday.

“I have a black eye and a broken finger but otherwise feel fine,” Lingo wrote in an e-mail to The Spokesman- Review sports columnist John Blanchette. Lingo won in the second round by submission.

Prior to the fight, Lingo, 38, told Blanchette, “Very few of these things get out of the first round.”
