LET’S DANCE

Take your happy feet to the Newman Lake Grange

From staff reports

On the first and third Sunday of each month the Country Jammers entertain folks from both sides of the state line with a mix of old-timey music and honky-tonk twang at the Newman Lake Grange.

“We play a little bit of everything. We have a good time more than anything,” said Lucy Mott, a dance regular and Newman Lake Grange member.

The free dances are from 1 to 4 p.m.

“It’s better than sittin’ home grumpin’ about the economy,” said Marilyn Daniels, who scoots around the dance floor with her husband, Jerry.

The Newman Lake Grange, a block north of Trent Avenue on Starr Road, is a busy community center. It is home to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, fire district and watershed meetings, community dinners, two spaghetti fundraisers, a dictionary drive for all third-grades in East Valley School District and more.

The Country Jammers return Saturday night for the Newman Lake Grange’s 75th anniversary celebration. There will be cake, ice cream, coffee and punch.
