West Valley sweeps Pullman

Sophomore Shaniqua Nilles had 10 kills and three blocks Thursday night as West Valley (7-1) swept visiting Pullman 3-0 and pulled even with the Greyhounds (7-1) atop the Great Northern League volleyball standings.

Senior Alyssa Wold finished with 22 assists and six digs for WV, which avenged the lopsided loss it suffered to Pullman earlier in the year. Baily Wold, a junior, also contributed seven digs and seven kills to the Eagles’ victory.

In other GNL action, visiting Medical Lake (2-6) got 14 kills from Gabrielle Daily and 16 assists from Myryda Johnson in outlasting Deer Park (2-6) 3-2, and Cheney (6-2) used Millie Holy’s 17 kills to post a 3-1 triumph over visiting Riverside (4-4) 3-1, which got a match-high 18 kills and 23 digs from Joni Nagy.

Inland Empire League: Savannah Blinn had a match-high 11 kills and teammate Rachel Fike finished with 16 assists as visiting Lewiston (3-7) powered its way past Lake City (3-7) 3-0. … Danielle Meehan finished with 11 kills and helped Post Falls (3-6) overcome some shaky passing in its 3-1 victory over visiting Moscow (4-8). Brittany Attwood added five blocks and four aces for the Trojans.

Intermountain League: Priest River (7-2) got 11 kills from Melissa Hopkins and 22 digs from Jamie Koch in sweeping past visiting Kellogg and maintaining control of second place in the league standings. … The match between Timberlake and Bonners Ferry was postponed until Oct. 21 because of a scheduling conflict.

Girls soccer

Great Northern League: Pullman’s Niina Al-Hassan scored a first-half goal on an assist from Kendra Heim, and the Greyhounds (8-2, 7-1) made it stand up for a 1-0 win over visiting Cheney. … Laura Estey and Brittni Maurd both scored goals for visiting West Valley as the Eagles (9-0, 8-0) remained unbeaten by turning back Deer Park 2-0. … Visiting Medical Lake (5-5, 4-4) used a pair of goals from Courtney Kelley, both of which came on direct kicks from just more than 18 yards out, to turn back Riverside (1-9, 1-7). The host Rams got their only goal from Rosa Bas late in the match.

Non-league: Marisa Watson had a goal and an assist in leading visiting Lakeland (13-2-3) to a 3-1 non-league win over Post Falls (4-11-1) in its final regular-season game. Post Falls got its only goal from Lexi Jerome.

Boys soccer

Non-league: Peter Sortehaug scored two goals and Matt Basile added another as Lakeland (8-6-1) wrapped up regular-season play with a 3-0 win over visiting Post Falls (3-11-1) at Rathdrum. Kris Rasmussen finished with two assists for the Hawks, who open district play on the road Tuesday with a first-round match against Moscow (13-2-3).

Football

Taylor Gregg rushed for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 42 carries, leading visiting Touchet to a 31-18 Southeast 1B League win over Colton/Pullman Christian (3-3, 1-2).

Touchet (5-0, 1-0), which also got 91 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns from Juan Castillo, finished with 482 yards of total offense.

The Wildcats closed to within 19-18 in the third quarter but could get no closer as Touchet scored once more in each of the third and fourth quarters.

CPC played without starting running back Chase Druffel, who injured his knee in last week’s loss to LaCrosse-Washtucna.

Sam Robertson led CPC with 128 yards on the ground on 10 carries.
