Gonzaga Prep rolls over North Central

Travis Long scored three second-quarter touchdowns as Gonzaga Prep broke a first-quarter tie and rolled to a 55-20 football victory over North Central at home on a Friday night of high-scoring Greater Spokane League football victories.

All four favored GSL teams won easily, including Ferris 35-0 over Shadle Park and East Valley 44-21 over University. Mead built a 35-0 lead in three quarters during its 35-14 win over Rogers.

Long carried the ball four times for 87 yards and two TDs, including a 57-yard dash, and caught two passes for 37 yards and a score to put the Bullpups (5-1, 4-1 GSL) ahead 27-7 after the first-quarter deadlock.

Nine G-Prep players carried the football and amassed 473 rushing yards against the visiting Indians (0-6, 0-6). Leading the way was John Lampert with 115 yards on eight attempts. AJ Hovan had a 65-yard scoring run. Jack Wilson, who had two interceptions, returned one 43-yards for a score.

Cameron Gump had two NC touchdowns and Justin Materne, who also threw for 174 yards, scored the other.

Ferris 35, Shadle Park 0: The unbeaten Saxons’ (6-0, 5-0) defense allowed but 111 Highlanders (2-4, 2-4) yards during its methodical tuneup at Joe Albi Stadium for next week’s GSL showdown at Central Valley.

Ferris picked off four passes and recovered two fumbles. Aaron Roberts rushed for one touchdown, caught a Derek Peterson pass for another, threw a TD strike and also had an interception. Peterson was 10 of 21 for 153 yards and two touchdowns with an interception. He rushed for another 49 yards and a touchdown.

Shadle had just 49 rushing yards on 15 attempts and 62 yards through the air.

Mead 35, Rogers 14: Max Kayser passed for 204 yards and touchdowns to three receivers and Brandon Lynch scored twice when the Panthers (4-2, 4-2) stormed to a four-touchdown first-half lead.

Lynch scored the half’s first and fourth touchdowns in the nightcap at Albi and finished the night with 108 yards on 15 rushing attempts. Mead had 320 rushing yards and 524 of total offense.

Kayser hit Bo Tully from 24 yards and Ryane Laforte from 7 in the first half. Tully had 80 yards on two receptions. In the third quarter Kayser found his brother, Mitch, on a 40-yard strike.

Cody Peterson scored twice in the fourth quarter and finished with 91 rushing yards for the Pirates (0-6, 0-5).

East Valley 44, University 21: Chris Zivic scored three times and Dakota Lawson had two touchdowns, one on a 63-yard punt return as the host Knights (3-3, 3-3) prepped for next week’s 3A showdown with Mt. Spokane.

Lawson also caught 4 passes for 70 yards. East Valley ran for 244 yards on 50 carries against the Titans (2-4, 2-4) and piled up 378 yards total. Zivic gained 53 yards on nine carries. GSL rushing leader Nick Bellomy added 92 yards on 19 attempts and had the game’s first score that spurred EV to a 28-7 halftime lead.

Tony Tabish passed for 146 yards and two Titans scores. John Wright, who had 86 yards rushing on 10 carries, scored the other.
