Allen, Dudley enter local bowling hall

Two women whose roots are deep in the junior program have been inducted into the Spokane County United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.

Kellie Allen, who started bowling in 1969 at age 10, and Patti Dudley, who started coaching in 1975, form the Class of 2008.

Allen, who met husband Jim when both bowled in junior tournaments in the 1970s, started coaching her sons in the junior program at North Bowl in 1987. As a bowler, she has had some memorable individual and team accomplishments.

In 1999, she bowled a 299 game at North Bowl, leaving a stubborn 10 pin, and that night she and four teammates compiled a 1,266 score that still stands as the women’s team single-game record in Spokane. Earlier this decade, she bowled a 300 game to highlight at 754 series at Lilac Lanes.

Dudley, the junior program coordinator at East Bowl and its successors from the 1970s until moving to Valley Bowl in 1992 and becoming the junior coordinator there, started the touring Junior Bowlers Tournament in the late 1980s. In the 1979-80 season, she was honored as the Washington State Bowling Proprietors Association coach of the year.

She started the Alycia Stevens Memorial Tournament in 1997 and it annually not only fills, but has a waiting list.

Dudley has been heard to comment that she will retire “as soon as this group of kids gets through the program.” She not only continues to head up the JBT, but is coaching three of her grandchildren.
