Carroll prevails

HELENA, Mont. – Zach Thiry kicked a 31-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining Saturday to lift Carroll College to a 24-21 win over Montana Western.

Top-ranked and defending NAIA national champion Carroll (7-0, 6-0 Frontier) extended its winning streak to 22 games.

Michah Mamiya passed for 271 yards and three touchdowns for Western (2-5, 2-4), including a 22-yard pass to Michael Guelff to tie the score at 21 with 2:20 remaining.

Gabe Le (Coeur d’Alene HS) rushed for 194 yards and Carroll’s first touchdown while John Camino rushed for 48 yards and the Saints’ other two scores. Carroll led 21-6 at halftime.

Mamiya connected with Martin Iosefo on a 5-yard scoring pass with 39 seconds left in the third quarter and then with Chris Wells for the 2-point conversion to pull to 21-14.
