McNabb gets two more Eagles passing records
Donovan McNabb set the Philadelphia Eagles career records for pass attempts and yards passing during Sunday’s 40-26 win over the San Francisco 49ers at San Fransicso.
McNabb threw a 26-yard completion to rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson midway through the second quarter to pass Ron Jaworski on the attempts list, then eclipsed Jaworski’s passing yardage mark in the fourth quarter.
The 31-year-old quarterback, in his 10th season with Philadelphia, was 23-for-36 for 280 yards and two touchdowns.
“Anything I receive individually is a tribute not only to this team, (but) to the big guy that drafted me in ’99,” McNabb said, referring to Eagles head coach Andy Reid. “(He) has that confidence in me to have me here for 10 years, and knowing that when the ball is in my hands, he feels good about things happening.”
McNabb heads into the bye week with 3,943 career attempts and 26,980 passing yards. Jaworski held the previous records with 3,918 pass attempts and 26,963 yards. McNabb also holds the franchise records for career completions and touchdowns.
Bengals’ Palmer to see Mets’ doctor
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will have his ailing elbow examined by a New York Mets team doctor.
Palmer said after the Bengals lost 26-14 to the New York Jets on Sunday that he would remain in New York to be examined by Dr. David Altchek. Palmer was designated as the third quarterback for the game behind Ryan Fitzpatrick and Palmer’s brother Jordan, the second game this season he has missed with the elbow injury.
Palmer said he had been told that his injury is the kind common to baseball pitchers, one reason he decided to consult Altchek.
Browns’ Winslow leaves hospital
Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow has been released from a hospital in Berea, Ohio after a four-day stay for tests and evaluation related to an undisclosed illness.
The Browns on Sunday downgraded the Pro Bowler from questionable to doubtful for tonight’s game against the New York Giants, meaning there’s about a 25 percent chance he’ll play.
If Winslow is out, Steve Heiden most likely would start.
Winslow was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday after feeling ill for several days.
His illness is not believed to be related to any of his previous injuries. He has undergone four knee surgeries and has had to play through pain throughout most of his four-year NFL career.
