Bulldogs qualify for state

Junior Adam Crossingham scored one goal and assisted on another as Sandpoint defeated visiting Moscow 3-1 Thursday to win the 4A Region I boys soccer championship.

Daniel Anderson and Spencer Swerin also scored goals for the Bulldogs (16-1), who advance to the state tournament next week in Caldwell.

Sandpoint won two of three meetings against Moscow.

Girls soccer

Great Northern League: Senior Laura Estey scored two first-half goals on assists from Kaley Way and Kayla Courchaine to help West Valley (9-1) to a 3-1 win over host Riverside (1-9). … Junior Kellie Zakrzewski scored three goals as Cheney (7-3) overcame an early deficit for a 4-1 victory over visiting Deer Park (5-5). Zakrzewski’s shot from 18 yards out knotted the score after Nicole Ball had scored on a breakaway in the first 3 minutes. … Jessica Herkel scored on a rebound and Samantha Kelly added two second-half goals as Medical Lake blanked visiting Clarkston 3-0. Courtney Kelly had two assists for the Cardinals (6-4).

Volleyball

Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark stayed atop the standings with a 3-0 road sweep over University. Oceana Bush had eight kills and Janele Vogt had four blocks for the top-ranked Tigers (8-0) … Mt. Spokane (5-2) pulled out a victory over visiting East Valley, scoring the last two points in an 18-16 fifth-set win on Annie Arnez’s tip and Megan Nelson’s kill. Justine Simpson paced the Knights (5-3) with 15 kills and five aces. … Brandy Johnson had eight kills, Shannon Giusti distributed 18 assists and Kyona Hunt had six digs as Central Valley (4-3) swept host Ferris (1-6). Emily Sarff added three blocks for the Bears. The Saxons’ Kiley Kamitomo and Laura Walker each had four kills. … Sam Hill had six aces and six blocks as North Central (1-7) nabbed its first GSL victory with a four-set win over visiting Rogers. Krista Bingle had eight kills and two blocks for the Pirates (0-7).

Great Northern League: Shaniqua Nilles’ nine kills and Alyssa Wold’s 23 assists and four aces lifted visiting West Valley (9-1) to a 3-0 sweep over Cheney (3-7). … K.C. McConnell had 14 kills and Katie Van Cleave contributed 15 assists and eight kills to spark Clarkston (4-6) to a four-set win over visiting Medical Lake (2-8). … Elizabeth McKinney had 27 assists and three aces and Joni Nagy added 20 kills, carrying host Riverside (5-5) past Deer Park (2-8) in four sets.

Non-league: Abby Helander had nine of Sandpoint’s 26 aces in a sweep over visiting Lakeland.
