Twigs scotch dinner

Mike Shea, general manager for the South Hill branch of Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar, 4320 S. Regal St., is bringing Diageo master of whisky Ari Shapiro over from the West Side for another Scotch whisky tasting dinner on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets – which include the four-course dinner plus single malt pairings – are $60, and space is limited.

Dry Fly announces classes

Start saving now if you’re thinking of learning how to distill gin, vodka and whiskey like the guys at Dry Fly Distilling.

Don Poffenroth and Kent Fleishmann recently announced on the distillery’s Web site ( www.dryflydistilling.com) that they’ll be offering classes starting in January 2009.

Schooling’s available in two-day or one-week blocks, with a limit of two students per class. The two-day classes are $500 and the full week is $1,500, with 50 percent of the tuition due upon scheduling.
