Idaho Independent earnings down

Idaho Independent Bank on Thursday released earnings deflated by tough real estate markets statewide.

For the third quarter ended Sept. 3, the Coeur d’Alene-based bank reported net income of $1.6 million, or 27 cents per share, compared with $2.7 million, or 43 cents per share, for the 2007 quarter.

Net income for the first nine months of the year was $4.7 million, 75 cents per share, compared with $8.3 million, or $1.30 per share, a year ago.

Bank assets decreased 4 percent to $604.2 million as of Sept. 30 from $630 million a year ago. Loans were off 2.8 percent to $503.2 million from $517.6 million.

Deposits and customer repurchase agreements fell 12.8 percent to $547.3 million.

The bank added $775,000 to its allowance for loan losses during the quarter, bringing the total to $10.2 million, or 2.02 percent of loans.

Carnival for ill children planned

Accounting firm LeMaster Daniels and the Starlight Children’s Foundation will host a “great escape carnival” Saturday in Spokane for local critically ill children and their families.

The community service project is one way LeMaster Daniels is celebrating its 100th year in business. Employees in 12 other Northwest offices will volunteer for other charity projects.

Children will come in costume and be treated to carnival games, hot dogs, cotton candy, clowns, face painting, prizes and more. The carnival will be in the Bank of America building lobby at 601 W. Riverside Ave. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free mortgage, foreclosure manual

A new manual to help Idaho residents avoid mortgage fraud and foreclosure is available from the state attorney general’s office. The publication, “Mortgage Fraud and Foreclosure,” is free.

The manual includes information about mortgage fraud, foreclosure rescue schemes and foreclosure prevention. It also describes consumers’ rights and remedies under related laws, and it provides contact information for mortgage-related resources.
