Jets put Chatman on injured reserve

The New York Jets placed running back Jesse Chatman and rookie quarterback Erik Ainge on injured reserve Tuesday.

Chatman, the former Eastern Washington University standout, injured his left knee during the Jets’ 28-24 victory over Kansas City on Sunday and left the locker room on crutches. Coach Eric Mangini said it appeared to be a season-ending injury.

Chatman, who signed with the Jets as a free agent in March, missed the first four games after being suspended without pay for violating the league’s steroids and related substances policy. Chatman said he tested for a diuretic – “something I never even heard of” – that could be used as a masking agent.

He had 8 yards on five carries, two receptions for 5 yards and five special teams tackles in three games.

Grosse, 42, finished in a time of 3 hours, 34 minutes and 4 seconds, beating 18-year-old Charlotte McShane of Mount Taylor, Australia, by 53 seconds.

Dropping sport OK, says judge

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit over the University of Oregon decision to drop men’s wrestling from its athletics program.

The Oregon attorney general’s office said Marion County Circuit Judge Lynn Ashcroft agreed with its arguments that the university had the right to drop wrestling.

The university restored its baseball program and added women’s competitive cheer after it dropped the wrestling program.

The Save Oregon Wrestling Foundation had joined with the group Equity in Athletics to challenge the decision in court.

New Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik isn’t wasting time reorganizing the Mariners’ front office.

Zduriencik began remodeling the franchise, firing scouting director Bob Fontaine and hiring a pair of former colleagues from Milwaukee.

Tony Blengino and Tom McNamara will join Seattle’s staff after working with Zduriencik in Milwaukee.
